- The 57-year-old ‘Kanto Boy 2: Anak ni Totoy Guapo’ actor lost his house in Caloocan City in a fire
- Actress/talent manager Nadia Montenegro visited the actor and took a selfie with him
- Damay Kamay Foundation, a charity made by celebrities to help their colleagues, started a fund drive for Israel’s recovery
The world is a good place to live in if we see people helping those who are in need.
Case in point – when an actor or actress reaches out to his or her colleague who has lost a lot.
On Tuesday, July 5, actress/talent-manager Nadia Montenegro paid a visit to Dick Israel, who lost his home in Caloocan City in a fire. He was not able to save anything in his house, which he also shared with his extended family.
Israel was at the top of his career during the 80s and 90s, and has won awards for best supporting actor. However, since he suffered from a stroke six years ago, the 57-year-old actor has never been the same again.
The stroke has left the lower part of his paralyzed and has impaired his speech. Despite his illness, he was still able to bag nine minor roles. Two of the most notable ones were both directed by Chito Roño, such as ‘Badil’ (2013) and ‘Boy Golden’ (2014).
Montenegro took a selfie with the veteran thespian that she also sent to her fellow actors. In particular, actor Alvin Anson shared the photo of the two on Facebook, which has gone viral since then.
“Morning!!! Ginising ko sya! Hahahaha! Makulit pa din!!!!”, read her photo’s caption.
Damay Kamay Foundation, which Montenegro is a member of, is a charity group made by actors to provide medical assistance to their fellows. Other members include Vivian Velez, Bianca Lapus, and Peter Serrano.
Montenegro visited Israel in behalf of the foundation, which has also started a fund drive for the ‘Patrolman’ actor. Damay Kamay has been successful in transferring Israel and his family to ‘a safe and clean place’ on Monday, July 4.

Vivian Velez thanked the actors who helped their foundation through the comments section of her Facebook post, such as Nikki Valdez who donated a wheelchair, Ricardo Cepeda who donated goodies and Marvin Agustin, Rita Avila, Efren Eyes and Roderick Paulate who donated cash.
The celebrity donors has been posted on the foundation’s Facebook page as well.
According to Montenegro’s message to Anson, she said that Israel still needs a lot of help and support. She stated that he needs all basic necessities, such as clothes, furniture and medicine.

“[Eight] sila ng mga anak at apo nya. We at Damay Kamay are working on looking for a house for him. We still need funds to pay for his rent for a few months to be able to start their lives again,” she added.
The foundation continues to accept donations for Israel, which can be sent through Peter Serrano’s checking account. Donors are advised to take a photo of their deposit slip and send their copy to the foundation’s Facebook page.
