- Senator Panfilo Lacson believes that President Rodrigo Duterte’s info on the five police generals allegedly involved in drug trade is correct since he has heard about some of the names in the list from his former men in the PNP.
- Senator Aquilino Pimentel III said that Duterte did a great job by revealing the names of the generals.
- Senator Vicente Sotto III explained that Duterte would not have revealed the info if it was not valid.
- Senator Gregorio Honasan urged the public not to judge the named individuals yet because a proper trial has not yet been conducted.
Four senators have expressed their reaction to the revelation of President Rodrigo Duterte that five police generals – retired Deputy Director-General Marcelo Garbo Jr., retired Chief Superintendent Vicente Loot, Chief Superintendent Bernardo Diaz, Director Joel Pagdilao, and Chief Superintendent Edgardo Tinio – are allegedly involved in illegal drug trading.
Senator Panfilo Lacson said on Tuesday that he personally believes the validity of the information given by President Rodrigo Duterte’s about the five police generals.
According to Lacson, he had heard during the campaign period from his former subordinates in the PNP two of the five names revealed by Duterte that they were indeed involved protecting drug lords. This made him confident that Duterte’s information was legitimate.
“All I’m saying is, since the President himself mentioned those two names among the five, he must have good basis in what he divulged, especially if he had a different source of that information,” Lacson told the media.
The senator also explained that the President has the best access to sensitive intelligence reports and vital information because he is the country’s commander-in-chief.
Senator Gregorio Honasan also reacted to the revelation, saying that the named individuals should not be considered guilty by the public before proper trial and investigation have been conducted because the families and children of the policemen are being affected.
Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, the incoming Senate president, described the move of Duterte as a “great job.”
Senator Vicente Sotto III also expressed his confidence on Duterte, saying that the president would not have revealed the information if it was not valid. -
