The It’s Showtime host Vice Ganda was featured as the Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icon in I Love OPM: The Celebrity Sing-Offs of ABS-CBN last Saturday and Sunday, July 2 and 3.
The said show, hosted by Anne Curtis advocates for the love of OPM music by rekindling the old popular Pinoy songs composed and sang by Pinoys themselves.
Among the featured artists of the show were Mega Star Sharon Cuneta, Martin Nievera, Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano, the Hagibis and Rico J. Puno.
Vice Ganda tweeted about his guesting on the show.
Aside from being a popular comedian and TV host, Vice is also a recording artist. In fact, he has released three albums Lakas Tama (Vicor Music, 2011), Vice Ganda (Star Music, 2013), at #Trending (Star Music, 2014).
Also, some of the songs he made popular nationwide are his novelty songs entitled 'KaRaKaRaKa', '#BoomPanes', '#PushMoYanTe', 'Wag Kang Pabebe', and 'Chuva Choo Choo.'
However, conversely, it seemed like there was one netizen who did not agree of Vice being considered an OPM icon. One named Abhie delos Santos questioned the show I Love OPM: The Celebrity Sing-Offs for their decision to invite the comedian, recording artist as guest.
Her tweets read:
'Npakaraming mga magagaling na singer o litiral na opm artist pero bat si vice pa? #OPMViceGanda'
(There are many great singers or literal OPM artists, so why Vice?)
'di pa rin maprocess ng utak ko kung bakit si vice yung guess ngaun? ganun na ba sukatan ng pagiging opm artist? so sad #OPMViceGanda'
(My brain can’t process why Vice is the guest for tonight. Is that the measurement for being an OPM artist nowadays? So sad.)
Vice, on the other hand, replied to his basher.
He said: 'Di ko rin maprocess kung bakit 'guess'? I guess GUEST ang ibig mong sabihin? Muka ngang di nagprocess ang utak mo!' (Likewise, I cannot process why you use ‘guess’? I guess you like to mean GUEST? Seems like it cannot be processed by your brain.)
The comedian even tweeted a follow up.
