The FEU Lady Tamaraws formalized their entry in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 78 Women’s Volleyball on April 6, 2016 at the Fil-Oil San Juan Arena, after dispatching the Adamson Lady Falcons in four sets, 25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 28-26.
The win gave them a 9-5 record, which is good for third spot. Thus, UP and NU, who are both sporting a 7-6 record are now in a must-win situation against UST and DLSU respectively in order to secure the last seat in the Final Four or force at least a playoff match.
FEU was up by two sets, but the gritty Lady Falcons refused to give up as they battled back in the third set. The Lady Falcons was almost poised to force a fifth set as they pulled away late in the fourth, 24-21. However, the Lady Tams made a 3-0 run to send the set to a deuce. Behind the efforts of Rookie Nette Villareal and ace attacker Bernadette Pons, the Lady Tams surged ahead 27-26. Jerrili Malabanan then put the match away with a service ace.
Being at solo third, FEU will either face Ateneo (11-2) or La Salle (10-2), depending on the outcome of the last two playdates for the elimination round. The most anticipated Ateneo and La Salle game will take place on Sunday, April 10 at the Mall of Asia Arena. This will be a no-bearing game as both teams have secured the top two spots and twice-to-beat advantage, but they are expected to go all-out to determine who gets the top seed.
