- VACC acccused Benigno Aquino III of committing multiple homicide for Mamasapano case
- Noynoy Aquino said that the case would only hurt the family of SAF 44
- Noynoy referred to the case as "nothing more than harassment"
Now citizen Benigno Aquino III is being accused of multiple homicide for the deaths of the men who died in the “Oplan Exodus” Mamasapano counterrorism operation. The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), the complainant, charged him of being reckless with the counterrorism operation and therefore resulting in deaths of the 44 elite troops of the Special Action Force (SAF) earlier this January in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
Former Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Alan Purisma and former SAF Director Getulio Napeñas were also named in the case filed by VACC. According to the complainants, Purisima should not have been involved in the planning because he was suspended for the alleged misuse of gun owners’ fees. VACC alleges that Purisima’s involvement was unlawful.
Napeñas on the other hand is being accused of breaking the chain of command. Napeñas followed a so-called “time on target” concept rather than coordinating with the military as instructed by then President Aquino. Napeñas only informed the military of his operation only after the fact.
But according to the former president, the case filed against him would only hurt the loved ones of the SAF 44. The case would only bring more sorrow to the victim’s family and friends.
“Let me emphasize: The families of the SAF 44 have experienced so much pain. I am worried that the instigators of this case, in furtherance of their objectives, are setting up the loved ones of the SAF 44 for even more suffering,” Aquino said in a brief statement.
Furthermore, Aquino accused Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, who represents VACC and the SAF 44 families, of being an attention seeker. Moreover, Aquino stated that that these cases filed against him were “nothing more than harassment.”
