Duterte’s barong was made of a fabric called piña jusi and he also wore khaki pants made of pure cotton. The barong – designed by Chard Pulache and cut by Manong Hermie Balagon – might have been simple in the eyes of the public, but it contained special customized buttons which read ‘DU30’ and its embroidery was patterned after the artistic style of the Manobo tribe.
