Vice Presidential candidate Sen. Bongbong Marcos described the recent plunder charges filed against him before the Ombudsman as part of the administration’s tradition of “selective justice.”
“Yun na nga ang problema sa atin. Everything is all about politics. ‘Yung justice natin nagiging pulitika na rin. ‘Yan naman ang ginagawa, kapag hindi ka kaalyado ay kinakasuhan. Pag kaalyado, kahit sangkot ay walang ginagawa. Kaya siguro nagging biktima na tayo dyan,” he said.
The group Ibalik ang Bilyones ng Mamamayan (iBBM), an alliance of youth organizations, trooped to the Ombudsman on Wednesday and filed a plunder and graft complaint against Sen. Bongbong Marcos over his alleged role in the pork barrel scam. They accused Marcos of funneling P205 million of his Priority Development Assistance Funds (PDAF) to six alleged fake non-government organizations linked to accused pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles.
In their complainant, iBBM cited Napoles’ affidavit submitted to the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, identifying Santos, who was supposedly hired by Marcos as a consultant, as her contact for the said projects. The complaint also cited the Commission on Audit which found the Marcos’ PDAF disbursements “illegal and irregular” because the projects turned out to be ghost projects.
In defense, Marcos said it was an old issue and Napoles already cleared him of his alleged involvement in the affidavit she submitted to the Senate.
“As I’ve said from day one, I never met Ms. Napoles. I never spoke to her nor did I ever have any personal dealings with her. Ms. Napoles’ Affidavit confirms this fact,” Marcos said in an earlier statement.
Marcos surmised that the filing of the plunder raps against him is just another way to derail his vice presidential bid. “Siyempre ginagamit yan as a weapon against me. That is the nature. Kung hindi kayang ipanalo ang kampanya, ang ginagawa bibigyan na lang ng problema ang kalaban,” he said.
Based on the recent surveys, Bongbong is at the top of the presidential race and is statistically-tied with administration bet Leni Robredo and Grace Poe’s running-mate, Chiz Escudero.
