TLC tells us in their song that we shouldn’t “go chasing waterfalls”; instead, we should just “stick to the rivers and the lakes that [we're] used to. However, when you are looking for adventures in Southern Cebu, chasing after crystal-clear and spectacular waterfalls is the way to go.
The Cebu province is filled with natural and manmade wonders. The province has beautiful town parks and plazas as well as baywalks. It can be found in almost every municipality in the Cebu province. The southern part of Cebu is also home to some of the magnificent and famous (or the not-so-famous) waterfalls .
So, when you are seeking for one-of-a-kind adventures or if you just need some time out from the hustle and bustle of the metro life or even of your current work, consider and behold the wonders of the following five waterfalls found in Southern Cebu.
If you are looking for a bit of exercise, then visiting Dao falls is the way to go. It takes a 30-45-minute trek from the South National Road before you can reach the falls. But all the trekking and the walking is worth the view. The catch basin is not really deep as it was before the 2011 earthquake that hit Negros Oriental and other parts of Central Visayas. They say that some rocks fell into the catch basin. This is found in Samboan.
This falls is found in Ginatilan. The falls is about 100 feet high. Its catch basin is said to be about 8 feet – the deepest part. Also, the falls feature a big rock where water drips and a small cave. From the main road, you can hire a habal-habal to take you to the jump off going to the falls.
This is perhaps one of the most visited falls in Southern Cebu. It is also considered to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world. Kawasan Falls has three levels. They say that the source is found near the Badian-Alegria border. The falls is located in Barangay Matutinao.
In Barili, you will find Matayupan Falls. It is considered to be one of the highest falls in the province. It can be found in Barangay Campangga. The waterfalls has two levels; the first is 14 meters while the second one is 98 meters. From the first level, one can reach the second level after a 5-10-minute walk, depending on your pace. There are big umbrella tents available for tourists and visitors. Also, a minimal fee is asked, which is used for the area’s maintenance.
These are not the only falls you will find in the southern part of the province. If chasing waterfalls is not your kind of thing, there are also several alternatives for you like snorkeling and diving, swimming with whale sharks, canyoneering, and island hopping, among others.
