Vilma Santos, Senators Recto, Pangilinan take oath on Monday

- Celebrity and Congresswoman Vilma Santos has taken oath

- With her is husband and Senator-elect Ralph Recto, who has also sworn into office

- Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, accompanied by family Sharon Cuneta and daughters KC Concepcion, Miel, and Miguel, has also made his oath

Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno administered the oath-taking of Congresswoman Vilma Santos, Senators Ralph Recto and Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan on Monday, June 27.

Vilma Santos, former governor of Batangas, defeated rival Bernadette Sabili during the May 9 elections as Congresswoman of the said province garnering 79,065 votes. Also known as the Star for All Seasons, Santos is the first female to represent Batangas Province in the Congress.

In an interview, she said that she must have done something right when she won as congresswoman.

Her husband, Senator-elect Ralph Recto received 14,271,868 votes in the last elections which placed him at the 11 rank in the senatorial race. He is currently the Senate President Pro Tempore. This is his third time to win the senate seat. The first was back in 2001 and again in 2010. Santos and Recto were accompanied by their son, Ryan Christian.

Senator Kiko Pangilinan placed 8 with 15,955,949 votes. He ran under the Liberal Party (LP) Team. Together with him during his oath-taking were Megastar Sharon Cuneta, KC Concepcion, Frankie, Miel and Miguel. He was a former presidential assistant on Food Security and Agricultural Modernization group back in 2013.

Other winning Senators were former Senate President Franklin Drilon, TESDAMAN Joel Villanueva, TV program host Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Panfilo “Ping Lacson, Philippine Red Cross chairman Richard Gordon, Returning Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, Boxing Champion Manny Pacquiao, Risa Hontiveros, Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian, and former secretary of Department of Justice Leila de Lima. – HB, Kami Media
