In defense of his running mate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, VP bet Senator Alan Peter Cayetano challenged Senator Chiz Escudero to a one-on-one debate, with the loser to be forced to withdraw from the VP race.
The challenge came in response to Chiz, who said that Duterte's plan to stop crime, drugs, and corruption within six months is unrealistic.
Alan said that Chiz's attacks showed that the senator didn't have any political will to end the ills that plagued the country.
According to Philippine Star, Cayetano said: “To those who lack political will, nothing is possible. But to those who have a clear vision for real change and the strength of character to do what is right, any goal can be accomplished.”
But Chiz is not the only one who doubts Duterte's plan to solve the problem of crime.
According to ABS-CBN, Philippine National Police chief Director Ricardo Marquez said that not even the most advanced countries in the world could promise to remove crime completely.
He also did not agree in Duterte's plan to make police as executioners.
It seems Cayetano wouldn't have to wait long before he could argue against Escudero in real time, albeit not one-on-one as he preferred.
CNN Philippines will host a Vice Presidential Debates this April 10.
