– Lance Gokongwei is the chief executive officer (CEO) of Cebu Pacific.
– Cebu Pacific is known for its cheap plane tickets from promos and negatively for its frequent delayed flight schedules.
– Gokongwei decides to fly rival airline PAL to have the same fate - get delayed.
Lance Gokongwei, Cebu Pacific (CebuPac) Chief Executive, chose to fly to Davao City on Sunday via CebuPac’s rival Philippine Airlines (PAL) in high hopes that his schedule would be followed, but ended up behind schedule.
Gokongwei told another passenger that he took a PAL flight instead of that of the Cebu Pacific “because our (CebuPac’s) 3 p.m. flight gets delayed.”
However, the PAL flight he took was also delayed. The departure time was supposedly at 3:00 p.m., but it was later on changed to 4:30 p.m.. To his surprise, their plane left at the Terminal 2 of Ninoy Aquino International Aiport at 5:15 p.m.
The chief executive, who flew economic class, was earlier seen boarding PAL flight PR 1817. Gokongwei was scheduled to join other top businessmen of the country in a two-day meeting with the incoming economic managers of incoming president Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte. The consultative meeting will start on Monday.

Gokongwei was spotted reading a newspaper just like a common plane passenger. He also had a short sleep during the flight which is one and a half hour long.
He arrived in Davao City at around 6:40 in the evening. Although he flew via PAL, he was welcomed by CebuPac employees.
Gokongwei is the only son of business tycoon John Gokongwei.
"I wanted to enjoy Father's Day lunch with my family. The first Cebu Pac flight to Davao in afternoon was 4:35 p.m., and there was 3 p.m. PAL flight. I had a dinner to attend in Davao so I took the 3 p.m.," the CEO said.
