Senator Chiz Escudero openly questioned the absence of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez’s name in the investigations of controversial flood control projects.

In his privilege speech on Monday, September 29, Escudero stressed that Romualdez still seemed to be “the name that cannot be mentioned” even after resigning as Speaker.

He asked, Why is Martin Romualdez not included in any investigation? Whether it’s DOJ, NBI, or AMLC.

Escudero also revealed that he raised the issue during a meeting with the Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI).

Before this, some netizens also questioned the official DOJ list, which named individuals facing charges from the NBI.

DOJ explained that the list was based only on sworn statements from Engr. Brice Hernandez, Engr. Jaypee Mendoza and former DPWH Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo.

Officials further clarified that any names not included in those affidavits are not recognized by the DOJ or NBI.

They said, If names have circulated outside of these affidavits, those are not recognized until they are sworn to under proper proceedings.

Escudero’s remarks highlight growing concerns about fairness and accountability in the handling of corruption cases involving major projects.
