Veteran film and theater actor Victor "Cocoy" Laurel has passed away at 72 years old on Saturday, June 14, his niece Nicole Laurel Asensio announced on social media. His sudden demise has left a void in the hearts of his loved ones and people from the local entertainment industry.

Actor-turned-senator Robin Padilla is among those who took to social media to pay earnest tributes to the late actor.
In a Facebook post on Monday, June 16, Sen. Padilla shared an art card about Laurel’s death.
In the caption, Padilla wrote “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un,” an Arabic phrase that means “Indeed, to Allah, we belong and to Him, we will return.”

He likewise penned a heartfelt farewell message to Laurel and honored the latter’s contributions to art and culture.
“Paalam sa beteranong aktor, Cocoy Laurel. Ang iyong kontribusyon sa sining at kultura ay mananatiling buhay sa puso ng bayan,” Padilla’s post reads, underscoring that the late actor’s legacy will live on in the hearts of the people.

Cocoy Laurel, whose full name is Victor “Cocoy” Laurel, is a veteran Filipino actor, singer, and theatre performer from the prominent Laurel family. He first rose to fame in the 1970s as a movie heartthrob, appearing alongside Nora Aunor in hit films like "Lollipops and Roses," "Lollipops and Roses at Burong Talangka," and "Impossible Dream." A multi-talented artist, he also pursued fine arts, studying painting in Madrid, and trained in prestigious performing arts schools such as the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and Juilliard.
Robin Padilla, on the other hand, is a famous action star and endorser in the Philippines. He is also the father of actress Kylie Padilla. Robin ran for senator in the 2022 Election. He won the race and was number one in the number of votes received among all candidates.

On his Facebook account, Padilla shared snaps showing him having breakfast in The Hague, Netherlands alongside the standee. In the caption, the actor-turned-senator jestingly said they were having a “breakfast meeting.” Duterte is currently detained in the Scheveningen Prison in The Hague for charges of crimes against humanity.
