Earlier this week, a driver of a ‘colorum’ UV Express van was arrested for raping two women inside his van.
The two women, ages 22 and 27, reported that they rode the van in Quezon Avenue-EDSA on Friday evening. When they reached Batasan Hills, the driver proclaimed a hold-up along with an accomplice. They bound the victims and took away their valuable belongings.
It has been reported that the women were raped alternately while the driver went around in Caloocan and Bulacan. The women were then abandoned at Sauyo Road in Quezon City, apparently still tied up.
Police were able to make out the identity of the driver through CCTV footage of the van in Caloocan and Sauyo Road. The driver, Wilfredo Lorenzo, was arrested while picking up passengers in Commonwealth Avenue on Monday, June 13.
Authorities found a packet of shabu in his van, and tested positive for using drugs. He has now been charged with rape, robbery and illegal possession of drugs.
However, Lorenzo’s accomplice (who has been given the alias of ‘Buddy’) is still at large. Quezon City Police District-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) chief Insp. Rodel Marcelo suspected that Lorenzo and his accomplice were also in charge of other related incidents in Makati and Rizal.
On Wednesday, June 15, the victims confirmed his identity at Camp Caringal where they mobbed him along with their families. They were eventually restrained by policemen.
They also called out to President-elect Rodrigo Duterte to fulfill his promise of re-establishing the death penalty for criminals who have committed atrocious crimes.
“President, kailangan namin ng tulong niyo. Wala nang dapat mabuhay na ganyan, maraming mabibiktima. Kaya kong manindigan, patayin niyo lang siya,” a victim cried out.
(President, we need your help. He should not be given a chance to live anymore; he has targeted a lot of victims already. I can stand up for myself, as long as you kill him.)
