Prince William of the United Kingdom is set to become the next face of a UK gay magazine and is also the first from the British Royal Family to become one.
According to reports from the Daily Mail and Telegraph, the prince revealed on Tuesday to a United States Embassy staff member in London that he would be interviewed by Attitude – the leading gay magazine in the UK.
His mother – the late Princess Diana – was a well-respected advocate for the rights of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community but she never granted an interview to any gay magazine and publication.
The LGBT community is thrilled with the reported appearance of Prince William in the gay magazine.
“I told him what I do and he said he’s going to be in Attitude magazine,” said Craig Petty, the president of LGBT association Glifaa.
Petty added that Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton were both very warm and friendly during their meeting in London.
“I was really nervous about meeting the royal couple, but they are both great at putting you at ease,” the Glifaa president said.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge recently attended a book signing to commemorate the 49 people who were shot to death by Omar Mateen at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
Prince William reportedly will use the magazine interview to raise awareness and campaign against LGBT bullying in schools, homes and workplaces, which he has fought against for a long time.
There have been other high-profile celebrities and personalities who have graced the covers of the popular gay magazine, which was established in 1994. These include Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe, football star David Beckham, singer Gary Barlow, and One Direction member Liam Payne.
The Attitude magazine tackles LGBT issues such as bullying, discrimination and male rape.
