Following the heartbreaking news about the pontiff’s passing, Yap immediately shared a post paying tribute to the pope.

On his Instagram account, @iamrichardyap, Yap published a throwback photo of himself meeting the pontiff inside St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.

In the caption, the prominent actor penned a heartfelt message to Francis.

“May you rest in the bosom of our Lord, Pope Francis,” Yap wished the late pope’s soul.

On Instagram Stories, Richard also reposted a clip from the said meeting and wrote, “So blessed to have met the Pope.”

It is worth noting that Pope Francis passed away at the age of 88, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Vatican camerlengo announced.

Farrell revealed in the heartbreaking announcement that the well-loved pontiff died on Monday morning, April 21, 2025.

“At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his Church,″ Farrell said in the announcement.

It is worth noting that Francis’ demise came a day after his appearance at Saint Peter's Square on Easter Sunday.

Pope Francis was the leader of the Catholic Church. He was born in Argentina and became pope in 2013. He was known for being kind and caring, especially to the poor. He encouraged people to help others and live simply. Many people admired him for his humble lifestyle and messages of peace.

In a previous report, Pope Francis was admitted to a hospital in Rome on Friday, February 14, the Vatican announced. In its statement, the Vatican revealed that the pontiff was taken to hospital for tests and to continue treatment of his ongoing bronchitis. As per Reuters, Pope Francis has suffered from influenza and other health problems several times over the past two years. Earlier, the 88-year-old pope revealed he was suffering from a "strong cold," which the Vatican later described as bronchitis.

The Vatican later confirmed that Pope Francis was in critical condition. In a Facebook post, they stated that the Pope "experienced an asthma-like respiratory crisis of prolonged intensity." This comes after the Vatican previously announced that his health condition was improving. Amid growing concerns for his well-being, prayer vigils are being held for Pope Francis. In Manila, Philippines, Archbishop Charles John Brown, the Apostolic Nuncio, has called for prayers for the Pope's swift recovery. In response, the Manila Cathedral hosted a prayer vigil attended by many faithful.
