The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) received pleas from jeepney drivers and transport groups for a provisional ₱0.50 fare hike.
Their call was due to the series of oil price hikes in the past weeks.
Since May, fuel prices were on an up and down trend. On Monday, diesel and kerosene increased its price to ₱0.15 to ₱0.30 respectively.
The LTFRB stated that they can make recommendations regarding the request but the implementation will be approved and done by the next administration. In two weeks, the turnover of the bureau to the Duterte government will happen.
ACTO President Efren De Luna said the proposed fare hike can help alleviate the effect of the P1 fare reduction that was enforced in January.
