Derek Ramsay and Shaina Magdayao star in the newest romantic comedy that is perfect for this upcoming elections.
In “My Candidate”, Ramsay is Sonny Suarez who the successor of a political family running for Senator. He wants to uphold the legacy of his ailing father played by Tirso Cruz III. His staff hires a young communications coach, Billie, played by Magdayao. Billie’s tasks are to teach Ramsay to be "charming, tactful, and charismatic."
Meanwhile, Iza Calzado is Ramsay’s ex-girlfriend Vera Sanchez who is also running for the senate. She is a self-made congresswoman who is not from a political family. As romantic comedies turn out, Ramsey will have to address his growing feelings for Billie.
Some people may find it funny since Ramsay and Magdayao are the former partners of the ex-couple John Lloyd Cruz and Angelica Panganiban. Cruz recently confirmed to the public that he and Panganiban broke up after three years.
The movie was off to a rocky start since it was reported late last year that Jennelyn Mercado was supposed to play Magdayao’s role after Mercado and Ramsay's undeniable chemistry in “English Only, Please”.
“My Candidate” is directed by Quark Henares and opens on May 11.
