School shuttle to solve heavy traffic - MMDA

On the first day of classes for this school year, several school service drivers and operators protested to raise their grievances towards the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) rule allowing only cars fifteen years and below to operate.

According to them, they wanted another year of extension for them to have ample time to save up and replace their old units. They aired that their income as shuttle service drivers and operators is not that much for them to replace the units right away.

In this regard, and due to the compelling need to solve the heavy traffic in the Metro, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) again considers urging schools to provide shuttle services.

Instead of having individual cars for each student, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) urges schools to provide shuttle services for their students to prevent heavy traffic in the surrounding areas.

The idea of schools implementing shuttle service for student was already being proposed by MMDA several years ago but was rejected by school officials who expressed concerns about students’ safety.

If implemented by the schools, it will be like hitting two birds with one stone. It may give additional burden on the part of the schools to ensure safety and security of students during travel, but it will for sure decongest the heavy traffic in the surrounding areas of schools especially near school gates. As for the parents, they will not have to go all the way to the schools wading through heavy traffic and impatient drivers to drop their child off.
