The drunk who challenged incoming President Rodrigo Duterte to a gun fight sobered up and chickened out.
Jun Calumpiano, a resident of Brgy. Gulod, Novaliches, was arrested after his neighbors reported that he aimed and fired a gun near his home. He was arrested by authorities patrolling the area for Oplan Disciplinary Hour in Gulod, Novaliches. Calumpiano was brought in the nearest police station.
In the station, the drunk Calumpiano challenged the upcoming president in a duel.
“Duterte mag draw tayo. Bigyan mo ako ng baril. Sige, walang problema. Ba’t ako matatakot? (Duterte let’s duel. Hand me a gun. No problem. Why should I be afraid?)”
The 9mm gun fired by the suspect can no longer be found, but authorities found bullets in his home. Calumpiano admitted that the gun was not licensed.
Neighbors’ accounts claimed that Calumpiano was drunk and tried to engage someone in a fight. He aimed the gun to the houses and fired the said gun.
Barangays intensified their patrol as part of the ordinance. Duterte champions 10pm curfew and abhors drinking in public. The barangay also advised computer shops to close down by midnight.
