Returning Senator Juan Miguel “Migs” Zubiri has once again expressed his unwavering support for the incoming president Rodrigo Duterte and asked the public, especially members of the media, to help the latter instead of going against him.
“Let us forgive his (Duterte’s) shortcomings. At the end of the day, if our government improves, and criminalities and the illegal drug problem are eliminated, and more jobs are created, let’s give him our support,” Zubiri said, stressing that the goals of his administration are more important than all the criticisms thrown at him recently.
“Let us help him (Duterte), although sometimes, he is controversial, let us allow him to serve the way he has served in Davao,” Zubiri said to media practicioners during the oath taking ceremony of selected provincial officials of Bukidnon in Malaybalay City.
On Friday, the senator-elect also said that he’d have incoming president Rodrigo Duterte any day, amidst full-blown criticisms the latter has been receiving from the public.
“I’d rather have a foul-mouthed mayor as president (who is) effective in governance than a sweet-talking, eloquent politician who is nothing but corrupt and incompetent,” Zubiri said.
The returning senator said that people should accept who Duterte really is.
“For the record: People should understand that this president is really like that,” Zubiri told the media.
“As a mayor siga sya. That’s how he is,” he added.
He also said that “(i)t’s never been this good for Mindanao,” as he expects meeting with Duterte on Friday night to thank him because he owes his win to the mayor.
2016 Vice Presidential candidate and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano has earlier said that the media and the people should get used to style of Duterte in communicating his thoughts to avoid problems.
“Kung masasanay kayo, maiiwasan natin ang miscommunication,” Cayetano said.
