Malacañang reminds Duterte: Follow due process

Malacañang said yesterday that although the goal of the incoming president Rodrigo Duterte to fire corrupt policemen is a commendable pursuit, the iron-fisted leader must still comply with due process in doing so.

Herminio Coloma Jr., Secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations, said that they back the continuity of the anti-corruption campaign for as long as they do it in accordance with the existing laws.

(The order of President-elect Duterte to some members of the PNP is one of his prerogatives as elected President.)

(Nevertheless, any action against corruption is still supposed to comply with due process based on the existing laws of the country.)

Coloma stressed that Rody’s anti-corruption actions serve as the continuity of the efforts of the present administration.

(One of the most important foundations of the Aquino administration is getting rid of unlawful corruption practices in all agencies of the government including the Philippine National Police. Any step that go towards this objective must be supported.)

Recently, the incoming president firmly requested three (3) high-raking police officials who are allegedly engaged in corruption practices to leave their post. Otherwise, he would name them and put them to public shame.

“Corruption must stop. I would have to ask about three generals in (Camp) Crame to resign. Do not wait for me to name you in public because I will only humiliate you,” Duterte said.
