Raymart “Macmac” Conahap, a 25-year-old alleged “hitman,” surrendered himself on Wednesday to a Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) official, saying he wanted to renew his life.
A resident of Barangay Carreta, Cebu City, the supposed killer-for-hire went to the CCPO headquarters and surrendered to the chief of the City Intelligence Branch (CIB), Supt. Michael Bastes.
Conahap was the subject of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Estela Alma Singco of the Regional Trial Court Branch 12 for allegedly killing Rowen Lobitania in 2015.
During his peaceful surrender, Conahap admitted to killing Lobitania for bullying his neighbors in Barangay Carreta. However, the alleged hitman wants to change his life for the better.
“Gusto na ko nga magbag-o sa akong kinabuhi so ni-surrender ko sa police,” Conahap told the media.
(I want to change my life so I surrendered to the police.)
In a separate interview, Supt. Bastes revealed that he had first heard about Conahap during his time as the chief of theft and robbery section of CCPO a couple of years ago.
“He (Conahap) was involved in theft incidents at the reclamation area,” Bastes explained.
Bastes also revealed that when the judge issued a warrant of arrest against Conahap, the police conducted surveillance operations to find him. The police also received unconfirmed reports saying that Conahap was a killer-for-hire for illegal drug personalities.
Conahap will be presented to the court by the police, where the judge will decide if the sentence for the alleged hitman will be reduced for admitting his crimes.
President-elect Rodrigo Duterte recently gave a warning to all kinds of criminals that they will be shot to death if they resist police arrest but they will not be hurt if they surrender peacefully. Conahap seems to have made the right decision by surrendering himself at the right time.
