In this crazy world where we live in, it is not surprising to bump into someone whose labels from hair props to shoelace shouts designer brands. They usually eat in luxurious restaurants and spend the weekend wasting time at 5-star hotel resorts.
These people are desperate, pretentious, and shameless. They are toxins in the society, slowly eating the dignity not only of themselves but also of people they hang out with.
There are different kinds of social climbers, and they can be seen almost anywhere – except in filthy and only-poor-people-go-to places. To help you in identifying them, here are some of the traits they have and habits they do. Watch out! You don’t want to be mixed in these kinds of crowds.
They are showered with designer labels.
They usually go for top-of-the-line designer brand clothing and accessories. From the simplest hair tie to the plainest pair of socks, you would effortlessly notice the labels that somehow intentionally printed in large-sized fonts.
Of course, their selfies focus on areas with brands that are easy to spot. Their goal is for people to go Oh! Lala! and drool over their being “blessed” with nice and expensive things.
However, in reality, they barely have any decent meal that day and they live under pretentions and debts. Worse, the clothing and accessories they wear are either Class B or Class C.
They never run out of “adventures”.
These adventures are as easy as going to a 5-star restaurant on a Saturday afternoon for a cup of green tea because “healthy living” is their way of life.
Then, the next day, you’ll see another post on social media claiming that they are enjoying a hot and sizzling yet relaxing afternoon in one of the famous resorts in town.
Their social media accounts are bombarded with check-ins, photos, status updates and so much more. They need to let the world know that they are in that place because basically, that is what they do.
Don’t fret, it’s bloodier than what you see. Most of the time, these social climbers just actually tagged along someone they knew just yesterday (maybe while having their cup of tea). Or they got in an exclusive resort because a friend of a friend of a friend stays there or knows someone who works there.
They think they are “celebrities.”
These social climbers live a life filled with lies. They think they are celebrities and that every single person in the city knows them by name.
They walk like models believing all eyes are on them. They eat as modestly as they can because judgmental eyes are lurking everywhere.
The truth is nobody really cares about these kinds of people, so they are pushed to market themselves and make a name – a not-so-good name at that.
Social climbers, in reality, don’t have any good to offer to the society. They can’t provide concrete and straightforward information about their work, their place, and the truth about their life.
So don’t be fooled the next time you see someone in designer brands or holding an expensive cup of coffee. They are, more or less, just social climbers clamouring for attention.
