Leni to do promised duty even without cabinet post

Vice President-elect Maria Leonora “Leni” Robredo says that she is to give her best in doing her promised duty to the Filipinos, with or without a position, and she respects the decision of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte in forming the cabinet of his new administration.

Leni to do promised duty even without cabinet post

"Iginagalang natin ang ginawang pagpili ni Pangulong Duterte ng mga taong bubuo ng kanyang Gabinete. Bilang pangulo, nasa kapangyarihan niya ang mamili ng mga taong makakatulong niya sa pagpapatakbo ng pamahalaan," Robredo said.

(We respect the decision of President Duterte in choosing the people forming his Cabinet. As a president, it is in his power to choose the right people who can help him run the government.)

"Subalit may posisyon man o wala, sisikapin kong matupad ang mga pangakong binitiwan ko sa ating mga kababayan sa abot ng aking makakaya," she added.

(But with or without a position, I will give my best to make sure that I fulfill my promises to the Filipinos.)

On Tuesday night, incoming President Duterte admitted that he has not reserved any cabinet seat to Robredo because he does not want to disappoint and hurt the feelings of Robredo’s neck-and-neck rival, Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

“I don’t want to hurt the feelings of Bongbong Marcos. He is my friend. That is the political reality,” President Duterte said during a press conference held in Davao City.

“Reconciliation need not come from an appointment (for Robredo). There is no compelling reason for me to accommodate the VP. I am sorry. Leni must understand that she belongs to the opposite side (of the political fence),” Duterte added.
