Sen. Tito Sotto recently revealed in an interview that he and his wife, Helen Gamboa, eloped and got married 52 years ago.

The Philippine Senate President made the explosive revelation while narrating details about his personal life to the entertainment media.

The celebrity couple recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.

In a “kumustahan session,” Tito Sen answered questions coming from his showbiz media friends.

One of the questions asked was how is he and his wife Helen now that they are more than fifty years married.

“Yes, 52 years nang nagtitiis si Helen sa akin. Hahahaha! September 22 is mismong araw nang tinanan ko siya at ikinasal kami,” the actor-turned-politician revealed.

He then detailed what happened that day, which included picking up Helen once her companions in her house were all asleep.

“Our plan then was susunduin ko lang siya pag tulog na lahat ng kasama niya sa bahay, then we’d go to Sto. Tomas, Batangas, kasi may kausap akong judge doon,” Tito Sen said.

The Senate President said that he told Helen that time that they’re just going to get married and he’s going to bring her back to her house again before the Gamboa household awakens.

Recalling the date and time, Tito Sen that he was with his brother Val when he picked Helen up.

“So ayun, sinundo ko siya, di niya mabuksan ang gate nila, so tumalon siya sa bakod. Kasama namin ang brother ko, si Val. But when we got there, wala pala yung judge. Madaling araw na yun ng Sept. 22, 1969,” the former singer-composer and actor-comedian said.

He then revealed that they went to the house of their friend and asked help from them to rouse their priest up so Tito Sen and Helen can be married.

They got married inside the church with only Val and Tito Sen’s friend in attendance, apart from the bride and groom.

He wasn’t able to bring Helen back anymore because it was already morning when they finished.

They eventually got married again in 1971, this time it was a big wedding attended by their families and friends.

When asked what is their secret to a strong and lasting marriage, Tito Sen said they practice give and take, as well as put faith in the middle of their marriage.

"First of all, Christ centered kami. Also, we practice give and take, pero ang totoo, mas lamang ako sa paggi-give. Kasi for me, I put my wife on a pedestal. Kahit akong nasa lugar, ako pa rin ang nagso-sorry sa kanya. ‘Machonurin.’ Also, lagi kaming nagbibiruan. Hindi nawawala yung humor," Tito Sen advised.

Sen. Vicente Sotto III is a Filipino politician. He is also a television presenter. He is now a senator of the Philippines, and the husband of actress Helen Gamboa.

Tito Sen's daughter, Ciara Sotto, shared a heartwarming moment of Tito Sotto and Helen Gamboa. In a video Ciara posted on Instagram, her parents listened to her song “Ang Tanging Tunay Kong Pag-ibig.” The love song was written by Tito which he dedicated to his wife. As can be seen in the video, Helen went emotional while listening to the song.

The Senate President, who is also running for Vice President in next year's election, defended Sen. Manny Pacquiao in his conflict with President Rodrigo Duterte. The President publicly challenged Pacquiao to prove his statement that there is corruption in the current administration. Duterte also threatened to campaign against Pacquiao and brand him as a liar if he is unable to back up his claim. Senate President Tito Sotto has defended the boxer-politician, expressing his bewilderment at some people’s anger at Pacquiao.
