Sen. Lito Lapid has tested positive for COVID-19, as disclosed by his office on Monday.

Jericho Acedera, lawyer and chief of staff of the senator, revealed on Monday to ABS-CBN that Lapid's COVID-19 RT-PCR test result was positive and that he is already undergoing treatment at the Medical City Clark.

The statement fo Acdera, where he referred to Lapid as "Pinuno," the moniker that Lapid portrayed in "Ang Probinsyano," was:

"We wish to confirm that unfortunately, Pinuno tested positive in his COVID-19 RT-PCR test."

Only the senator's close-in employees and personal contacts were considerably exposed.

Employees of the senator have already tested negative and no one is exhibiting symptoms.

Acedera also assured the public that they will be reporting the progress of the senator's recovery, whenever they would receive information from the doctor attending to the senator.

The senator's camp also asked everyone to pray for him, for his continued recovery, and for everyone affected by the pandemic.

"We enjoin everyone to pray that his health and of all those infected continue to improve, and more importantly, for this pandemic to soon be over," Acedera said.

Manuel “Lito” Mercado Lapid is a veteran actor who became a politician and served in the Senate from 2004 to 2016. In the May 2019 elections, he also won and made it to the “Magic 12.”

Actor and politician Senator Lito Lapid has filed Senate Bill 1197. The proposed bill seeks to extend the validity of the passports issued to senior citizens. The lawmaker said that it would ease the burden of senior citizens going through the rigorous process of applying and/or renewing passports. He also mentioned that the bill serves as a way of giving back to senior citizens.

Coco Martin recently went to the Senate of the Philippines to talk to Senator Lito Lapid. The Facebook post that announced the said information did not give other details. However, ABS-CBN News was able to acquire several important information about the visit. It was revealed that the actor-turned-lawmaker gave a piece of advice to Coco.
