Aiko Melendez recently shared her story of how she successfully managed to raise her kids almost entirely on her own.

The actress married Jomari Yllana on July 23, 2000, and after three years, the couple separated, citing irreconcilable differences.

That marriage was later annulled and Aiko was left on her own to care for their son, Andre.

Several years after, Aiko met Martin Jickain and the two got married. Aiko gave birth to Marthena, her daughter with Martin, in 2006. The second marriage did not work out either and in 2010, that marriage was also annulled.

Aiko is left with two kids that she raised as a single mom. In a social media post, the actress shared that it’s not easy to be a single mom.

She said that every time she recalls all the hardships she went through, it always makes her cry.

“Di madali ung pinagdaanan ko para mapagtapos ko Anak ko yes on my own. Single mom ako dba . Not complaining. I remember there were days na i was lacking in terms of financial at that time, Mader Ogie Diaz somehow knows my story,” Aiko emotionally recalled.

Money was very scarce during that time. She revealed she would do projects one after another so that she could earn money.

Despite all the hardships, she set her eyes on a goal and that is to send Andre to college and at some future date, see him graduate.

Today, Aiko marked the fulfillment of that goal with the graduation of her son.

“You’ve made your mother so happy and I couldn’t be more proud of you,” the multi-awarded actress said.

She was born on December 16, 1975 to actor Jimi Melendez, real name Jim Shinoji, and Elsie Castañeda, now Blardony. Aiko first entered showbiz as a child star in the 80’s under Regal Films. Movies she starred in include Santa Claus is Coming to Town. She rose to prominence and earned awards for her role in the movies May Minamahal, Sa ‘yo Lamang, and Kahit Kailan.

Lately, Aiko took to Instagram and showed how proud she is of her son Andre. She said that there were so many trials and dramas that took place but Andre made it through. He graduated from Don Bosco Technical Institute of Makati with a course in Automobile Mechanic. The actress thanked Andre because he kept his promise, “Graduate ka na.”

About two months ago, Aiko shared in her vlog how she once experienced being "hopia" when she thought that her boyfriend would propose. The actress revealed that during their third-year anniversary, she felt so kilig due to the lovely setup. At that point, she felt and expected that her boyfriend would already propose to her. However, such was not the case and Aiko felt, “Napahiya” back then, but a recent vlog of the couple revealed that her boyfriend plans to marry her this year.
