Christine Mateo, Rabiya Mateo's mom, in an interview with Cinema News One, recounted how her daughter was bashed especially during the national costume segment.

She told her daughter to stay focused amid all the bashing that were thrown her way.

"'Huwag mong intindihin ang mga iyan, anak. Focus ka lang.' After that, she's on the right track. Nag-focus na siya sa competition."

She said that those who bashed her did not know the sacrifices that she made in representing the Philippines in the prestigious competition.

The mom emphasized how Rabiya's legs were injured and yet she managed to pull through.

She also reiterated how Rabiya had to carry 21 kilos of wings for the costume segment.
