When Andrea’s name was announced as the winner of the 69th Miss Universe crown, beating out 73 other beauty queens, she could not help but get emotional as she received the prestigious crown onstage. The beauty queen impressed the judges during the Q&A segment as she answered a question about COVID-19. The first runner-up is Brazil's Julia Gama, the second runner-up is Peru's Janick Maceta, the third runner-up is India's Adline Castelino, and the fourth runner-up is Dominican Republic's Kimberly Perez.

Andrea’s win, however, was immediately overshadowed by a controversial photo showing the newly-crowned Miss Universe Andrea Meza in a wedding dress. In the photo, the Mexican beauty queen can be seen in a stunning wedding dress, leaning against a guy in a suit, which was said to be for commercial purposes. They were atop a hill, looking absolutely sweet with a very nice caption as well, with Andrea tagged in the photo.
