- Shamcey Supsup explained why Rabiya Mateo did not have any headpiece during the national costume competition at the Miss Universe pageant

- Supsup said that they have brought the headpiece with them but when they tried it on Rabiya, it kept on falling

- Rather than compromise the overall costume and her performance on stage, they decided to have her use it in a way that she would be comfortable

- Overall, Rabiya was able to deliver really well even without the headpiece

Shamcey Supsup, in an interview with ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe, explained why Rabiya Mateo was not wearing a headpiece.

According to Supsup, who is the national director of Miss Universe Philippines, they brought the headpiece with them.

However, she said that it kept falling off whenever Rabiya would wear it.

Rabiya Mateo also took to IG live and cried, and apologized to those who were disappointed but said that she really gave it her best.

She also thanked those who were giving her support.

She is set to represent the Philippines at the Miss Universe 2020 pageant, which will be held on May 16, 2021 in Florida. Rabiya was born on November 14, 1996 to an Indian-American father and a Filipino mother who later separated.

Ogie Diaz, in his latest vlog, weighed in on the controversy involving Catriona Gray and Rabiya Mateo. Catriona received criticism after she did not express her support for the country's Miss Universe candidate, Rabiya, comparing the support Pia Wurtzbach gave the latter. Cat responded that she is a Filipina and a Miss Universe and that the pageant is a celebration of women. The comedian and talent manager then echoed the sentiments of Catriona in her reply to all the bashing.

Rabiya Mateo took to Instagram and affirmed that she is indeed a fan of Thai actor Mario Maurer. This came about after Kim Atienza addressed Maurer and said that the beauty queen is not a fan of his. Kim said that it is Kakai who is a fan of the Thai actor but she was treated badly by his PR team. The beauty queen then reposted a photo of Maurer and said that she was fangirling.
