“Today is my Papa’s birthday. He is no longer on earth and I am with hope to see him in heaven.
“But I want to take this time to celebrate that he was born. So many people die thinking why were they even born to begin with and so I want to just say this to the world that I am grateful my Papa was born. He was not a perfect Papa, but he did give me quite a lot of foundational things.
“My name — RICA, is from Ricardo, which is his name and my Lolo’s name. My love for God. I saw him love the Bible and devoting a specific time of his day praying to God and singing to Him.

“His love for activity. He played tennis, he once bought two mountain bikes. I sometimes wonder: had we a better relationship, could we have gone out on more adventures together?
“His blessing. When we were younger we dreaded Sundays cause he preached way too long before lunch. BUT! He also regularly let us go after the long home sermon with a blessing. There was covering in that which I never realized until lately.
“His sorrow. He laughed loud, but also there was this undeniable sorrow in his eyes. Many times I have heard him say sorry. Like I said, not a perfect Papa, but my heart knew he was sorry to be that way and wished he were better. That was so helpful for me to understand that while we cannot make everything right, it is a whole lot helpful to be sorrowful and to communicate that wrong things have sad consequences.

“His letter. He wrote me for a retreat I went to in 2001. In that letter he celebrated me and so maybe all that he was not able to say directly to my face, God, in His grace, kept it in a letter. I am so glad my Papa diligently wrote thise things.
“The reality of a life in Christ. I always believed in the after life with God, but when my Papa died, there became this very real and deep longing to see the Christian promise for those who have fallen asleep. The glorified version of my Papa is now something I really look forward to meeting. (Pero wag muna now Lord ha?)
“I love you, Papa. Not sure how birthdays are celebrated there but I celebrate and love you here, flaws and strengths, I accept and appreciate you here. BUT also excited to meet the perfect you over there,” Rica posted on Instagram.

In an earlier report by KAMI, Rica’s house helper went viral after a netizen accused Rica of being unfair to her kasambahay by giving her food that was different from what her family was eating. The actress already clarified the matter on social media, explaining that her helper has her own food because she usually does not like the food that Rica and her family eat.

Rica then spoke with KAMI about how her family treats their kasambahay. Being Christians makes it important for Rica’s family to treat their house helper with a lot of care and dignity. She and her husband have been trying hard to lessen the power distance between her and their employees.
