Leni Robredo commemorates late husband Jesse Robredo’s birthday as the new vice president of the Philippines today, May 27th.
Despite being the second placer to Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on the second day of the official canvassing for the vice-presidential position, Leni Robredo ends the race with a margin of 263,473 votes as the official counting wraps up at 7 pm.
Though Robredo had a 200,000 lead on Marcos during the first day, Marcos snatched the top spot on the second day of canvassing with a 1.9 million lead as votes from his bailiwick, the Ilocos Region, as well as the vote-rich provinces of Cavite, Laguna, and Bulacan were tallied.
On Friday, the last day of vote-canvassing, Leni Robredo was able to catch up to and eventually overtake Marcos’s lead. She further widened her lead in the tight vice presidential race as she was declared a clear winner in the provinces of Antique, Zamboanga del Norte, Maguindanao, and Lanao del Sur come in.
166 certificates of canvass showed Robredo with a total of 14,418,817 votes, against Senator Bongbong Marcos' 14,155,344 votes.
The canvassing wrapped up with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on a clear lead against the other presidentiables with a total of 16,601,997 votes.
