Angel Locsin slammed government authorities and those responsible for failure to provide proper care to Lumad student Esmelito 'Bugoy' Oribawan.

In an Instagram story, the actress asked why authorities failed to provide proper care to Oribawan.

“At the risk of being red tagged again, I would like to ask why this young man was not given proper healthcare? Regardless of his case, I think everyone deserves human rights and proper treatment from the government. Kung yung mga nag massacre nga naka-aircon pa sa kulungan. Proper healthcare lang naman ang hinihingi habang iniimbestigahan. Makisuyo lang pong matignan mga ma'am at sir,” Angel Locsin said.

A report by Inquirer revealed that Oribawan was among those arrested by government authorities during the “rescue operation” mounted by the PNP in the University of San Carlos (USC) in Cebu City.

According to authorities, the 26 Lumads, consisting of 19 minors and 7 adults, were found in the school’s retreat house.

The PNP alleged that the group is training to become future enemies of the government.ABS-CBN reported that USC officials are denying the claim.

Authorities turned over the 19 minors to the CSWD while the 7, including Oribawan, were detained at the PNP’s custodial facilities.

Rappler reported that recently, human rights group Save Our Schools (SOS) Network’s paralegal team visited the detainees on March 20. It was during that visit that they discovered Oribawan has coughed up blood days ago.

Upon learning of his condition, actress Angel Locsin implored for authorities to give the teenager proper care.

The SOS Network also said Oribawan has become too weak to stand up or talk. The Lumad student has been in detention for more than 30 days after the police arrested him on February 15.
