Jan Catherine Sy, the 29-year-old daughter of SM Prime Holdings chairman Big Boy Sy passed away on March 18 due to sepsis.

She is also the granddaughter of Henry Sy, the founder of SM Group of companies.

A report on Spin.ph revealed that the Sy family sent text messages to friends and family informing them of her demise.

The text message indicated that the promising equestrienne died at 6:35 p.m.

Sen. Joel Villanueva was among those who expressed sympathies to the Sy family.

"Devastating to hear the passing of Sis. Jan Catherine Sy, daughter of my good friend and brother in Christ Henry (Big Boy) Sy, Jr Folded handsLoudly crying faceBroken heartFolded hands Our deepest sympathies to her family and loved ones. Much love and prayers."

Indeed, the Sy heiress is among those considered as gone too soon, at having passed on at a young age.

Jan, was vice-president in the Sy family’s real estate development arm, which is the SMDC. She was also an avid equestrienne, a sport, which she really loved. In an interview she gave to Inquirer’s Marge Enriquez, the heiress revealed that she had been training in the tough sport since she was only seven years old, mainly in France.
