Liza Soberano and Fil-Am star Shay Mitchell have been chosen to be the voices of Alexandra Trese in the upcoming Netflix animated series “Trese”.

The Kapamilya actress was officially proclaimed by Netflix as the voice of Alexandra Trese on March 8. Her lead role is based on the Filipino graphic novel written by Budjette Tan and KaJO Baldisimo.

Liza is both excited and honored to lend her voice to a well-known character in the Philippine graphic novel.

"It’s an honor to be the voice of an iconic character such as Alexandra Trese. I’m a huge fan of Budjette and KaJO’s award-winning 'Trese' comics. Maraming salamat! Excited na 'ko,” she said.

While the Kapamilya star is the voice of the Filipino version, Shay Mitchell is behind the English dub. The Fil-Am Hollywood star is recognized for her roles in several shows. Some of these are “Pretty Little Liars” and “You”.

According to Shay, she is also exhilarated to be part of the show.

“I’m so excited to be a part of a unique and amazing project like 'Trese', and to voice a character as brilliant as Alexandra Trese. Philippine folklore is rich and fascinating, and I am thrilled to be a part of the team bringing this story to life,” she said.

The executive producer of the animated series is Jay Oliva. He is also one of those people behind “The Legend of Korra” and “Wonder Woman”. He admitted that the comic series will be a challenging project for him – and he already knew it even from the very start.

“As a fan of the komiks, I knew that the title role of Alexandra Trese was going to be challenging to cast for the animated series. It is important for the voice talent to embrace the layered character to fully become Alexandra Trese,” he said.

However, his uncertainties vanished after knowing the voices of the characters. According to him, Shay exceeded his expectations, and Liza fits the lead character very well. He also mentioned that he is a fan of the actress so her part in the project makes it more special.
