Amber Heard filed for divorce from Hollywood actor Johnny Depp in Los Angeles on May 23, Monday. The actress cited irreconcilable differences as the main reason for divorce but seeks spousal support.
The pair had met during the filming of "The Rum Diary" where they co-starred in 2011. They had been married since February 2015 and had no children together.
The A-list actor is worth $400 million and has his own private island in The Bahamas. With no pre-nuptial agreement, Depp had to file legal documents through his lawyer in order to ask the judge to reject Heard's spousal support claim.
First reported through TMZ, it is also said that Depp just lost his mother Betty Sue Palmer due to an illness just three days before Heard filed the divorce petition.
Depp's representative released a statement less than a day after news broke of his impending divorce.
"Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life. Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly," said their statement.
The couple also made waves last year when they were involved in an illegal smuggling case of their pets in Australia.
Depp was involved in a long relationship with French actress and model Vanessa Paradis prior to dating and marrying Heard.
