Celebrities oppose Duterte's presidency-not-for-women remarks

- Some prominent personalities took to social media to contradict President Rodrigo Duterte’s recent speech

- The President earlier addressed claims that his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, will run for presidency in 2022 election

- In a statement during the inauguration of Skyway 3, he expressed that presidency is not for women

Some celebrities had recently taken to social media to air their thoughts on women’s capability to become great leader.

This was after President Rodrigo Duterte addressed claims that his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, will run for presidency in 2022 election.

“My daughter, inuudyok naman nila. Sabi ko my daughter is not running. I have told Inday not to run kasi naawa ako sa dadaanan niya na dinaanan ko. Hindi ito pambabae. Alam mo, the emotional set-up of a woman and a man is totally different,” the President said during the inauguration of Skyway 3.

Meanwhile, among the prominent personalities who posted their opinions about the said statement are Angelica Panganiban, Karen Davila and Agot Isidro.

Angelica then said on Twitter, “Dun ako sa acting president na BABAE.”

Karen likewise tweeted her reaction that reads, “Women make great leaders. Yes, the Presidency or any other job for that matter, can be handled by a qualified woman. #empoweredwomen @UN_Women @unwomenasia.”

Furthermore, Agot posted an article published by Forbes with the title “What Do Countries With The Best Coronavirus Responses Have In Common? Women Leaders.”

The article praised the effective strategies of Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Iceland Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir, Finland Prime Minister Sanna Marin, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen of Denmark to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was succeeded by her daughter as the mayor of Davao City. He was 71-years old when he started his term as the President of the Philippines.

In a previous report by KAMI, he revealed that his daughter, Mayor Sara Duterte, will not be running for presidency in 2022. He mentioned that he discouraged her daughter from running because of how tough it is up there.

Earlier, the President declared that the government officials will be the last to be given vaccines. He said that the frontline workers will be prioritized.
