The Nationals suffered yet another loss in manpower as Rain or Shine’s Paul Lee confirmed on Tuesday’s practice that he will be out of the Gilas pool to recover from a recurring injury.
Gilas Pilipinas Coach Tab Baldwin said that Lee’s absence in the national team will be sorely missed as he knows what Lee is capable of doing.
Lee was named Finals MVP in Game 6 when Rain or Shine won against Alaska to clinch the Commissioner’s Cup.
“It happens every single year. Hardly ever in my career have I gone in to a season or campaign with a fully healthy team. It’s part and parcel of being in sports,” Baldwin said, adding he wishes Lee nothing but the best.
The combo-guard joins Barangay Ginebra’s center Greg Slaughter and TNT’s versatile forward Matt Ganuelas-Rosser in the injury bay. Coach Baldwin confirmed last week that Slaughter and Ganuelas-Rosser had ankle injuries that will keep them from participating in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament that will be held in Manila from July 5-10.
Despite the losses, the Gilas mentor is still upbeat about our chances in the qualifying tournament. On Tuesday’s practice, the team welcomed back San Miguel gunner Marcio Lassiter and Rain or Shine’s Gabe Norwood. Alaska star Calvin Abueva will be also available starting on Wednesday.
