Manny Pacquiao defends absence of social distancing at his birthday party

Senator Manny Pacquiao, his family and friends were accused of violating COVID-19 safety protocols at the senator’s 42nd birthday celebration in General Santos City.

KAMI learned that Pacquiao defended himself from the accusations on social media after his wife, Jinkee Pacquiao, posted on Instagram some of the photos taken at the party.

According to the senator’s interview on the ANC program “Headstart,” they did not violate protocols during the party even if the photos show that social distancing was not enforced and that many of the guests were not wearing masks and face shields.

He explained that swab tests were done on all of the guests before they could enter the venue. The boxer-politician also pointed out that although the venue could fit 300 people, only 50 people were allowed to go inside.

“It was less than 50 people who were there inside the hall, and they also took swab tests. We all required them to take swab [tests] so we weren’t negligent.
“We knew that this would be an issue so that’s why they had to take swab [tests] before they were allowed in…The hall was big. Actually that hall, it can fit about 300 but there were less than 50 so that’s OK for a place that can fit 300.
“There were no violations. We were careful about celebrating, and it was just a simple [party],” Pacquiao said on Headstart.

Manny Pacquiao is an eight-division world boxing champion, considered one of the greatest boxers in history.
