Buraga’s controversial Facebook post, expressing that it was Sonya Gregorio who was at fault for the shooting incident in Paniqui, Tarlac, caused him his position as the police chief of Bato, Catanduanes.

Bato Mayor Juan Rodulfo appealed for the dismissal of the chief of police since he deemed that Buraga’s loyalty is with his fellow law enforcers, not with the town constituents. The said request was immediately granted.

In an interview with Radyo Natin Virac, Buraga was given the chance to explain himself. He was asked about his reaction regarding the attention he received from social media. The official was also asked to clarify his stand on the issue.

Buraga insisted that he was only trying to emphasize the need to respect police officers, regardless of age. He also said that it is hard to maintain self-control and patience.

According to Buraga, he realized that the older Gregorio’s disrespect triggered Police Senior Master Sgt. Jonel Nuezca to shoot her and her son, Frank Anthony.

“Dun ko nakita. ‘Di sana mati-trigger ‘yung pulis kung hindi dahil sa kawalang respeto ng matanda,” he said.

Buraga also said that he accepts the consequence of his action.
