The chief of Paniqui Municipal Police Station, Lt. Col. Noriel Rombaoa, in an Inquirer report, said that he was able to talk to Senior master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca personally.
He said that Nuezca admitted that he did the crime and he also said that Nuezca regretted having done it.
"Nakausap ko na po at aminado naman siya na nagawa nya yung pangyayaring iyon at sising-sisi siya sa nagawa niyang iyon," said Rombaoa.
He also said that Nuezca and the Gregorios are neighbors. He said that Nuezca heard the victims blasting a boga. He said that Nuezca responded and had an altercation with Frank Anthony.
"Inaawat naman nitong si Sonya yung anak nya. Then dumating sa punto na yung anak ng pulis ay nagkasagutan sila nitong matandang babae and doon na nagdilim ang paningin siguro ng suspect at binaril nya itong dalawang biktima," ended Rombaoa.
Rombaoa said in GMA's report that Nuezca should have allowed the police to intervene instead of taking it in his own hands. In Philstar's report, he also said that Nuezca refused to say anything except that he regrets what he has done.
Below is a video, which showed the situation at Lola Sonya's house after the shooting.
Issues have hounded the Philippine National Police (PNP). Before the Gregorio issue, many stories concerning "police brutality" have made rounds online. Issues concerning the police and how they deal with people have also been a hot topic in social media. A case in point was that of Corporal Winston Ragos.
The Philippine Army Chief already ordered the launch of an investigation on the death of Corporal Winston Ragos who, with his arms up in the air, and upon bringing it down was shot by policemen at a checkpoint. His sling bag did not contain any gun or any weapon, as per the statement of his relative. The PA, on the other hand, as per its statement, it also mentioned that the wounds of a soldier are not merely physical but also mental.
An incident in Quiapo Church also caught the attention of social media users. Two police officers took away the protest materials while the mass was ongoing.
