"Murder!" DILG Sec. Eduardo Año decries shooting of Sonya Gregorio, says Nuezca to be discharged

- DILG Sec. Eduardo Año released a statement on the shooting of Sonya Gregorio and her son Frank Anthony Gregorio

- He said that it was murder and that the department will file a case against the policeman

- He also said that the policeman should be discharged from service because the department does not need such kind of policeman

- He added that justice must be given to Sonya Gregorio and her son

DILG Sec. Eduardo Año released a statement concerning the shooting of Policeman Jonel Nuezca.

He decried the incident and viewed it as murder. In ABS-CBN's report, Año also said that the policeman must be discharged from service and that they do not need the kind of policeman. The issue was very simple for him to use arms.

"Talagang murder ito. We will make sure na mai-file itong kaso at... dapat matanggal sa serbisyo itong pulis na ito. We don't need this kind of policeman. Napakasimpleng bagay lang niyan para gamitan mo ng armas... Talagang kailangan hustisya. Bigyan natin ng hustisya."

Issues have hounded the Philippine National Police (PNP). Before the Gregorio issue, many stories concerning "police brutality" have made rounds online. A case in point was that of Corporal Winston Ragos.

The Philippine Army Chief already ordered the launch of an investigation on the death of Corporal Winston Ragos who, with his arms up in the air, and upon bringing it down was shot by policemen at a checkpoint. His sling bag did not contain any gun or any weapon, as per the statement of his relative. The PA, on the other hand, as per its statement, it also mentioned that the wounds of a soldier are not merely physical but also mental.

An incident in Quiapo Church also caught the attention of social media users. Two police officers took away the protest materials while the mass was ongoing.

Sen. Risa Hontiveros thereafter talked with the MPDD Roland Miranda about the incident, saying that they were not even staging a rally.
