- PNP Chief Debold Sinas warned that people who will be caught partying will be arrested
- Dinner events will be allowed as long as proper health protocols will be followed
- People who will be caught for minor health protocol regulations will not be arrested
- Police officers will not muzzle or tape their guns during this holiday season
PNP Chief Debold Sinas made a public warning on Monday regarding the arrest of partygoers this Christmas season, which is against the public safety efforts of the Philippine National Police to stop the spread of the COVID-19.
According to Gen. Sinas, since parties are still prohibited, the police will have to arrest partygoers.
The PNP chief reported that he instructed ground commanders to make sure that no party will be conducted in their respectable areas. His priority is to see to it that the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-MEID) guidelines will be carefully followed.
It can be remembered that Sinas himself became the subject of controversy when he was caught partying in May despite the heightened quarantine regulations.
According to him, dinner events can be allowed as long as health protocols are observed. Gen. Sinas stated that he will allow the commanders to decide upon the matter.
The PNP chief also stated that individuals who will be caught committing minor health protocol violations, like not wearing or incorrect wearing of face masks, will not be arrested.
“Nagbigay na po ako ng instructions na hindi na po arestuhin, kausapin lang at kung may makita i-correct na lang. Kung walang mask bigyan ng mask, kung walang shield bigyan ng shield,”
It can be remembered that before, an arrest was allowed when someone is caught violating the COVID-19 prevention measures.
He also disclosed that the ground commanders will not muzzle or tape the police officers’ firearms this Christmas season. It is due to the ineffectiveness of the tradition to prevent indiscriminate firing.
According to him, taping would not stop officers who want to fire their guns. However, he warned that the police officers who would be proven to engage in indiscriminate firing would be terminated from the service.
Gen. Debold Sinas is the new Philippine National Police Chief, as appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte in November. One of his agenda is to promote fitness and proper weight maintenance among police officers.
