- The United Kingdom has recently approved the use of a vaccine versus the novel coronavirus
- Its government agreed with the recommendation to use Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine to its people
- The said vaccine is said to be 95 percent effective against the dreadful disease
- According to The New York Times, UK has pre-ordered around 40 million doses
The United Kingdom has finally approved the widespread use of a novel coronavirus vaccine starting next week.
KAMI learned that the said country is the first in the world that opened its way for mass immunization using the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.
The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority (MHRA) is now authorizing the emergency use of the said vaccine starting from those whose status is “most at risk.”
The Guardian reported recently a statement made by the Department of Health and Social Care about the government’s approval of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.
“The government has today accepted the recommendation from the MHRA to approve Pfizer/BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine for use,” MHRA spokesperson said.
“This follows months of rigorous clinical trials and a thorough analysis of the data by experts at the MHRA who have concluded that the vaccine has met its strict standards of safety, quality and effectiveness,” she added.
In a separate report, The New York Times said that the United Kingdom has pre-ordered 40 million doses of the “95 percent effective” vaccine.
Meanwhile, BBC.com mentioned in an article that more or less 50 hospitals are now waiting for the arrival of the vaccine. It also noted that vaccination centers are now being set up.
The novel coronavirus pandemic has severely affected the lives of millions of people beginning December last year. National governments have been waiting for the vaccine that could fight the said disease.
A few months ago, several Chinese medical experts divulged their findings on the COVID-19 situation in the Philippines.
An Italian infectious disease doctor also claimed that the virus is already getting weaker and it may just disappear without the need for a vaccine.
