Known for songs critical of the government and social ills, Gloc-9 shared that he hopes to finally write positive lyrics now that incoming president Rodrigo Duterte's administration is soon to take over.
In an interview published by The Philippine Star, the rapper said that he is tired of writing negative songs about the government.
“Gusto ko naman ng mas masayang note, mas masayang kanta tungkol sa isang politiko... Sana po if ever kung ako’y susulat ng kanta o piyesa tungkol sa padating na administration, ito’y isang kanta na nagpupuri at nagbubunyi," he said.
(I want a happier note, a happy song about a politician. Hopefully, if I'm to write a song or piece about the incoming administration, it will be a song of praise and celebration.)
During the campaign period last elections, the Gloc-9 received negative feedback from netizens due to his performance in political rallies. Gloc-9 was invited to perform for campaign sorties of former Makati mayor candidate Abi Binay and presidential bet Senator Grace Poe.
Gloc-9 defended himself in a social media post saying he's just doing his job.
“Bago ko po in-oo-han ‘yong trabaho na ‘yon, alam ko ng mangyayari ‘yon (Before I said yes to that job, I expected that to happen),” said Gloc-9.
“Isa lang naman po ang sinabi ko sa sarili ko, I have no plans of engaging anybody na nagsasabi ng pangit na bagay sa akin. Wala po madudulot na maganda ‘yon, hinayaan ko na,” he added.
(I told myself that I will not engage anybody who said something bad about me. It won't do any good, so I just let it go.)
Friend and Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda expressed support for the rapper.
Gloc 9 is set to release a new album soon entitled "Sukli" under Star Music.
