Cebuano composers still not paid by local candidates who used their song "HAHAHAhasula"

Local Cebuano composer Jude Gitamondoc and social media celebrity 'Medyo Maldito' Rowell Ucat are both still waiting payment for royalties form a Lapu-lapu City candidate who without permission, used their song for his campaign jingle.

Both composers told reporters that there are at least four local candidates in both Visayas and Mindanao who used their song  for their campaign jingles without asking their permission.

The song that was used is the 2015 Visayas Pop hit entitled, "HAHAHAhasula", originally sung by Cebuano local singer and director Kurt Fick.

Of the 4 identified candidates who used their song for their jingle, only Cebu City councilor candidate Renato Osmeña Jr was able to pay the composers. According the the composers, Osmeña negotiated to pay them P20,000 for the use of their song, less than the original P30,000 asking price. He also paid each composer a total of P5000 in cash plus P5000 worth of gift certificates. Two candidates hailing from Mindanao have also recently settled with the composers. The amount of payment remains undisclosed.

Only one candidate remains to have yet made payment to the composers. Lapu-lapu City candidate for Mayor Rolando Patalinjug Jr.,after using their song remains unable to settle.

Gitamondoc, one of the composers, told SuperBalita in an interview that no politician asked or was given permission or licencse to use the song for political campaign purposes.

He added that if candidates would like to patronize and use their songs for campaign jingles, they must first acquire and pay for royalites first. He told reporters that his songs are under Music R US, the official production that can give license to use the original material. He added by saying that the company may still come after those who change the lyrics without asking for permission.

Gitamondoc a Facebook post said: "Again, we reiterate : We are not out to malign or antagonize anyone. We're doing this to educate the general public and uphold the implementation of copyright laws, especially in Visayas and Mindanao."

He also thanked candidates who used HAHAHAhasula as their jingle but chose to settle with the composers. Rowell Ucat, the other composer, is known for his online characters Medyo Maldito and Inday Hugot.
