Current ‘The Voice’ coach Lea Salonga has shared that she’s proud of the young singer Esang de Torres for joining ‘Les Miserables’ in Singapore.
Despite not winning ‘The Voice Kids’ Season 1, many doors have opened for the young aspirant Esang de Torres. ‘The Voice Kids’ finalist has been cast as Little Cossette for ‘Les Miserables’ that will be held at Singapore.
Her former mentor Lea Salonga has expressed her excitement for Esang’s big break. In an interview she said, “Oh, you have no idea how proud I am of that child.”
The mentoring and guiding did not stop when ‘The Voice Kids’ finished. According to Lea, she asked Esang to come to her house before auditioning for the role. She shared, “I asked her to come to the house and I coached her the day before the audition to tell her what she has to do, what she shouldn't do, and what they're gonna look for.”
‘The Voice’ coach added, “Now, she's off and heading to Singapore to be part of that Asian tour production. It's a wonderful production, same here in Manila. I'm still flabbergasted and the production team said she's wonderfully talented, 'We love her. We love her in the company. I was like, You have no idea how proud I am of that kid. She's really talented, really special.”
When asked if this news about Essa being cast for a major broadway production has an effect on choosing for new trainees this third season of ‘The Voice,’ Lea shared that she’ll be picky but “picky for the right reasons.”
Lea talked more about her strategy on winning this third season: “We're turning for special kids, where we see immense potential for vast improvement. There are kids who are out of the womb who are already ready, and there are some that need a little bit more time. The two winners were just single-chair-turner. For Elha, it was only Bamboo. And for Lyka, it's just Sarah. So the standards, it's pretty much the same. You gotta have something that we can absolutely work with and we have to see that you have the potential to be the champion of this competition.”
