Boxing icon and now Senator Manny Pacquiao has been heavily criticized for being one of the top absentee congressman when he was still Sarangani's representative. But in the days he did attend, the boxing champion can claim authorship and co-authorship of four laws.
Pacquiao was the sole author of Republic Act 10828, which was signed last May 19 by President Noynoy Aquino.
As representative of Sarangani, Pacquiao entitled said law as “An Act establishing a regular district office of the Land Transportation Office in the province of Sarangani and appropriating funds.”
The law requires the secretary of transportation and communications “to include in the department’s program the operationalization of the regular district office of the LTO in the municipality of Alabel in Sarangani, the funding of which shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act.”
He also co-authored three other laws according to the House of Representatives' records.
One of them is Republic Act 10699, which expands the coverage of incentives granted to national athletes and coaches.
He also co-authored Republic Act 10679, promoting entrepreneurship and financial literacy program among the Filipino youth by instituting mechanisms and strategies.
And lastly, Republic Act 10777, which declares September 1 of every year as a special non-working holiday in the province of North Cotabato in commemoration of its founding anniversary.
