Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco officially replaced Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano as the new House Speaker on Tuesday.
KAMI learned that Cayetano also tendered his resignation ahead of the special session over the 2021 budget.
In a report by ABS-CBN News (authored by Gillian Ropero), about 186 lawmakers voted to ratify the election of Velasco as the new House Speaker.
It was reported that an informal session happened at Celebrity Sports Plaza on Monday. It came before the meeting of Velasco and Cayetano with President Rodrigo Duterte happened regarding the passage of the 2021 national budget.

As posted by GMA News on Facebook, Cayetano tendered his resignation as the House Speaker via Facebook live.
Cayetano apologized to his staff and his supporters. However, he remains grateful to President Duterte for the opportunity.
According to the report of Philippine Star (authored by Xave Gregorio), President Duterte already met with Cayetano and Velasco on September 29 to discuss the term-sharing between the two.
In 2019, President Duterte had an agreement with Cayetano and Velasco about term-sharing. Cayetano was appointed as the House Speaker for 15 months, while Velasco will be replacing him for the next 21 months.
Earlier, Velasco already took an oath as the new Speaker of the House at the Celebrity Sports Complex.
More than a week ago, Cayetano offered to resign as the House Speaker. However, the House plenary quickly rejected it.
